Net,

This was a very interesting article! It is unbelievable the amount of children that are overweight in today’s society.  The questions you asked though are a little confusing.  Were you trying to ask if people in the United States understand the negative effects of obesity?  If so, my answer would have to be that because there are so many overweight people in the United States, it is hard for people to completely grasp (understand) the negative effects because there tend to be so many others who are overweight as well.  In a group dynamic, as in in a situation where there is a large group, people tend to pay attention to the fact that they are not alone in their problem, therefore, they do not see as big of a necessity to change how they are.  Your second question was worded very nicely!  I do believe that people who have a higher percentage body fat are more prone to diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.  Within these circumstances people who have diabetes and high blood pressure are more likely to have health issues later in life and consequently, possibly die earlier.  Your third question of will the child obesity “amount” grow in the future, I do believe that yes, if proper precautions are not taken in the next few years to assist in lowering the level of obesity it will continue to grow.  A great way to counteract the growth of obesity is reading and spreading these kinds of articles!  So good job Net, you are already helping without even knowing it!

-precaution-an action taken in advance to protect against a certain issue. in this case that issue is obesity.

-counteract-to act in the opposite way.

-dynamic- an action of force within a group

Overall good job Net! Just try and when you are asking questions to reread them and make sure if you were to have to answer them you would know exactly what was being asked. :-)
